Marja Pirilla
Marja Pirilä’s atmospheric series “Like a Breath in Light” casts a spell on the viewer. The images present Finland’s lake Nässijärvi in the many moods of natural light. They can be seen as emotional landscapes, whose essence evokes memories of Caspar David Friedrich and the romantic idea that nature presents a mirror to the soul. Clouds, water, and endless expanse – everything seems to blend, almost dissolve, into one another. The topographic features of the landscape recede and the image space is flooded with a light that shines, depending on the time of day, in glowing red, warm honey yellow or melancholy blue-violet. These emotionally-charged photographs, captured by the artist using a self-made pinhole camera, appear almost as abstract paintings. The monochrome aesthetic and the use of light as a distinct artistic tool lead to parallels with the Colour Field Painting of Mark Rothko and Barnett Newman.
Despite their art-historical allusions, Pirilä’s works are deeply personal. As we gaze upon the landscapes, we are invited to project our own interpretations, and to follow their mood in a meditative trance.

Saul Leiter
The exhibition Saul Leiter: New York Reflections was prepared by the JHM in collaboration with the Howard Greenberg Gallery in New York. Besides over 60 colour and 40 black-and-white examples of his street photography, a small selection of fashion photographs, paintings, and painted photographs will be shown.

Drifting away - Erika Diettes
In Drifting Away my intention is to draw attention to some of the victims of forced disappearances of the Colombian armed conflict. The project is a response to a number of press reports and news broadcasts which explain how the paramilitaries and the guerrillas torture people, mutilate them and make them disappear by throwing their bodies into a river. This is the source of the saying that the rivers of Colombia are the world´s largest graveyard.
To create an expression of this horrible situation, I decided to submerge pieces of clothing or personal objects of the victims in turbulent water, and then photograph them. I print these photographs on glass to convey the feeling of the ethereal and fragile character of life in those parts of our country.
These very large glass photographs are then displayed upright in the ground, like translucent tombstones in a cemetery. This way people can walk in and around them, and begin to experience the grief of loss. It has been very difficult for the families of the disappeared to feel the healing power of grief, especially since there is often no certainty whether one of the disappeared is actually dead or alive.

I chose one of the pictures I took and tried to edit the brightness and contrast on photoshop to see if it adds any effect or makes the picture look any more pleasing to the eye because I was struggling to get that water rippled effect into the picture which was my aim.
WWW: I created multiple good pictures that really had the artists touch too it which I loved.
EBI: I tried changing the colours and played around with photoshop.

Eli Reinholdtsen
Eli is a photographer with a passion for shooting reflections. Her work has got a distinct style and she has a very strong eye. Her first photography book "Folk" was released on Blurb.com earlier this year. This is her blog. Eli also works with implementing ERP systems in large organizations.
I developed Elis idea by going to the high street and taking pictures of the things in the windows. They way i'm going to developed this is by taking much more developed pictures with my camera and go to the centre of London and take reflections of all the glass buildings and big shops.
WWW: I was really happy with my pictures especially how contrasted the picture looked in black and white.
EBI: I want too developed much further into this artist.

Lee Friedlander
Lee Friedlander began photographing the American social landscape in 1948. With an ability to organize a vast amount of visual information in dynamic compositions, Friedlander has made humorous and poignant images among the chaos of city life, dense natural landscape, and countless other subjects. Friedlander is also recognized for a group of self-portraits he began in the 1960s, reproduced in Self Portrait, an exploration that he turned to again in the late 1990s, and published in a monograph by Fraenkel Gallery in 2000.

Abstract reflections in buildings
Abstract photography consists of images created using photography materials and equipment that don't have an immediate association with the physical world. Abstract photographers use perspective, movement, and light to transform the world we see into an unexpected, often unrecognizable image. Reflection photography is also known as mirror photography. Its basic premise is capturing an image that also has a reflective surface that is echoing the surrounding scenery. It can be in a setting as huge as the ocean, or as small as a raindrop.
WWW: I loved the clear rain drops in the puddle that added that effect of reflection.
EBI: Could definitely take more developed.

Reflections in buildings
Final Exam
The two images above are the photos I am going to be using to fade over each other to blend the ideas and creativity of reflections. I print screened some of my steps but most of it was quite basic and common sense. First you copy one of your images and paste it onto the other one, once that is done you go to the bottom right corner where the layers are and you click opacity, opacity changes how faded an image is. Lastly I print screened the opacity from 0% - 100% to show the development and created a gif.
The idea of this is to really look into the idea of reflections and merge random pictures together to see how it would turn out. I am also using all different types of tools to see if theres any way to make the details cleaner and maybe have the image stick out more and maybe have the sky edited with the light design.
WWW: I created very nice images of reflections and brought two different types of reflections together to create one piece and it came out perfectly in the gif.
EBI: I did a variety of gifs and switched up the pattern.
